Hexalectris Orchid Surveys at CRP (VH)
Tuesdays, June 6, 13, 20 and 27, and July 11 and 18, 2017 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Thursdays, June 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, and July 6 and 13 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Join Stephanie Varnum on Hexalectris orchid surveys at Cedar Ridge Preserve. They are starting to bloom! This is the 14th year of this Citizen Science project at Cedar Ridge Preserve for counting and tagging these terrestrial orchids, which, worldwide, are uncommon to extremely rare.
Newcomers are welcome! We will teach you all you need to know. Start at 8 and end by 11 AM. Long sleeves, long pants, bug spray, and poison ivy precautions are recommended. If it is raining or if we had rain the day before, we will not meet as the trails are too slippery and muddy. Returning Orchid Hunters will attest to the fun we have and how interesting, even addictive, this is!
On Tuesdays, meet at 8:00 AM at the picnic bench in front of the Education Building at CRP.
On Thursdays, park and meet at 8:00 AM at the corner of Straus Rd. and Deloach Dr. to enter through the side. Instead of turning in at the CRP entrance, turn on County View Rd., which becomes Straus Rd.
Final count days will be Thursday, July 20, and Friday, July 21.
