Discover the Prairie at White Rock Lake
Sunday, May 21, 2023     3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

You are invited to join this guided walk of Unit 2 (AKA Bison Hill) at White Rock Lake, a remnant of virgin Blackland Prairie – never plowed, never developed. Learn about the history of our White Rock prairie and its diversity of flora and fauna from our guide, biologist and naturalist Becky Rader.

Cost: Free; RSVP to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508084CADA92AAAFC1-white

Location: White Rock Lake Prairie Unit 2 (no ID signage), East Lawther Dr. at the northwest corner Mockingbird Lane and Buckner Blvd. (Next to the E. Lawther Exit from westbound Mockingbird Ln.) “Park on the East Lawther perimeter of the site – two wheels on the road, two wheels off.”

Be advised that there are no people trails; take care with walking through prairie terrain. There is poison ivy on the site. We recommend that you wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a hat; bring sunscreen, insect repellent, water (no throw-away plastics, please). All children must be 8 or older and accompanied by an adult.

We encourage the use of iNaturalist and Seek to ID and post your discoveries. For an example, see https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/ntmn-white-rock-prairie-unit-2-aka-bison-hill.

Check our WRL Prairie website for more prairie info.
