There are now dozens of active Certified Water Quality Monitors in Dallas and Collin Counties under the NTMN Aquatic Alliance Group. And they are monitoring dozens of sites on streams, lakes and springs around Dallas.

Richard will present on the status of urban streams and springs in Dallas watersheds and the activities of Aquatic Alliance. Other water monitors will assist. Q&A to follow.

About the Speaker

Richard must have river water running in his veins. He has canoed since Boy Scouts in early 1960s and still paddles and rows often.  “I am most at peace and at one with a flowing stream while going with its flow in a boat and being energized by moving water”. At 30, he began canoeing, kayaking and rafting on a more regular basis. Richard has since paddled most of the rivers in the Southwest, and legendary whitewater in the western states, Alaska, Quebec, Mexico and Central America. In 2018 Richard navigated the Grand Canyon for 10th time and Middle Fork Salmon.

When Richard joined NTMN in 2009, he was attracted, of course, to water-related projects.

  • Certified as Texas Stream Team Monitor in 2009.
  • Aquatic Alliance Team Leader in 2010.
  • Certified as Trainer in 2011.
  • Big Spring Preserve approved as NTMN project in 2013.
  • Water, again, is the common denominator as Richard added Big Spring Preserve to his Project Team Leader responsibilities.

Richard has served Texas rivers statewide with years of board member and webmaster service to Texas Rivers Protection Association, Friends of the Brazos River and various river-related TPWD committees.
