Gore, Oklahoma, Paleontology Field Trip (FYI) Saturday, April 8, 2017   9:00 AM – 1:00 PM The destination for this trip is a Pennsylvanian Age, Morrowan Stage, quarry near Gore, Oklahoma. This is the very earliest Pennsylvanian. You will find blastoids (the real attraction at this quarry), also occasional crinoids, Paleozoic shark teeth, brachiopods, corals and other invertebrates.

Bring rock hammer, collection containers, also recommend knee pads for crawling some of the finer gravel areas, chisel, insect repellent, water and snacks.

We will meet at 9:00 AM at Hart’s Grocery Store on highway 10 in downtown Gore. Be on time, as I must lead you into the quarry. If for some reason, you will be a few minutes late call me, Polly Mullinex, 903-916-0083, and I’ll arrange to meet up with you.

Gore is about 4 hours north of Dallas. Take the Webbers Falls exit off I-40. It will put you on OK Highway 10. Hart’s is a few miles north on the left.

Time permitting, for those interested, we will also visit the road cut outside Lequire, OK, to hunt for Pennsylvanian Age plant material.

This trip is not eligible for MN hours, since it is outside Texas. Always check the Dallas Paleo hotline, 817-355-4693, before a trip for any last-minute changes.
