Greater Dallas Organic Garden Club July Speaker’s Meeting with Chrissy & Sean Cortez-Mathis

Please join us at North Haven Gardens when our speaker will be North Texas Master Naturalists Chrissy and Sean Cortez-Mathis.  2:30pm refreshments and social time, 3:00pm meeting start.

The topic of this discussion is Landscaping with Biodiversity.  Chrissy and Sean will share their story of transitioning their Richardson property from a lawn to pathways and plants.  They’ll discuss how this shift brought sustainability and biodiversity to their property and the surrounding neighborhood.

In 2020 Chrissy and Sean became North Texas Master Naturalists but they have enjoyed learning about plants and wildlife for many years.  They have lived in Seattle, Washington as well as in the Solomon Islands. In both places they learned much about gardening with an abundance of rainfall. 

In 2004 they bought a house in Richardson. Now it was time to learn about gardening with less rainfall. Each year they worked to make the yard water wise and wildlife friendly.  Chrissy and Sean enjoy talking with their neighbors over the fence and in the front yard about these practices.

2012 and 2013 they were chosen for the City of Dallas WaterWise Garden Tour and have also been on the Landscaping Tour for Richardson as well as for the Greater Dallas Organic Garden Club.  Since becoming Master Naturalists they have taken a new look at their landscape and are devoted to bringing in more native plants to their property to increase biodiversity.  Chrissy is a past president of the GDOGC.  We look forward to learning a great deal from their experience.
