Cibolo Creek - 1 (1)As Master Naturalists, our Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics insure the ultimate trust, dignity and integrity of the TMN Program and its members. But do these codes limit or enhance our ability to be effective ambassadors for environmental concerns? Craig contends that adherence to our Codes enhance our ability to be effective communicators, and provide an alternative to the toxic nature of political discourse in our society. Topics to be covered in his presentation include a review of the Codes of Conduct and Ethics, the interplay of facts, values, and ethics, the centrality of conversation in achieving positive conservation outcomes, and a brief review of the literature as to what works (and doesn’t work) in promoting success in environmental initiatives.

Craig Childs, a Fort Worth native, is presently Vice-President of the Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists. Craig has been a certified Master Naturalist since 2015. His volunteer hours have been spent almost entirely at the Albert and Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area in Kendall/Bandera County supporting the White-tailed deer and feral swine management projects. Craig is a retired pathologist, who has applied his pathology skills to harvesting lymph nodes and brain-stems for Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance in the South-Central Texas Containment CWD Zone. He is an avid land management and subsistence hunter, who also dabbles in bird photography. Craig and his wife Ruth (also a Master Naturalist and an excellent birder) live on the Cibolo Creek near Boerne, Texas, where they manage their property according to best land management practices.
